Temporary Position Filling in for Vacation
The Community Medical Wellness Centers USA (CMWC) Optometrist cares for patients in the community clinic setting. The Optometrist will be responsible for examining patients, diagnosing eye and vision problems, testing patients’ depth and color perception, and testing patients’ ability to coordinate and focus their eyes. The Optometrist will also prescribe contact lenses and glasses, and diagnose eye problems within the optometrist’s scope. This provider will refer to supportive care as needed and appropriately, and interacts positively with other members of the CMWC Staff.
Primary Essential Duties
Essential duties of this position include but are not limited to:
1. Ensure all patients receive accurate diagnosis and appropriate recommendations.
2. Utilize and effectively leverage all available technology to deliver unsurpassed patient and customer experiences.
3. Interviews and examines patients having a full range of vision problems, consulting medical charts when available.
4. Determines, using a full field of optometric instruments and equipment, such things as patients' visual acuity; amplitude of accommodation; refractive state at far and near point; and accommodation, convergence, and biocular coordination at far and near point.
5. Employs low vision aids such as telescopic and microscopic lenses for the correction of sub-normal vision.
6. Determines proper remedial alternatives and discusses and interprets findings with patients and/or parents; suggesting appropriate remedial method.
7. Refers patients with indications of possible pathological condition to an ophthalmologist for additional examination.
8. Consults with ophthalmologist when appropriate.
9. Calculates proper prescription employing formulas ranging from those necessary to calculate simple, single corrective lenses, through those necessary to calculate contact lenses, prisms, iseikonic and ophakic lenses.
Qualifications: Licensure/Certification (as appropriate) & Skills
1. Licensed Optometrist in the state of CA
2. Must have a Nat'l Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date.
3. Interpersonal: frequent contact with employees, the public and patients requiring interviewing, good listening and communication skills.
4. Knowledge of optometric industry trends, technology, product, and processes.
5. Strong Leadership and critical thinking skills
6. Problem Solving ability
7. Recognizes and builds on strengths, open to working on opportunities
8. Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records systems, and digital refraction systems.
